Software engineer with 16 years of experience in real time operating systems and protocols. Responsible for designing, developing and testing innovative software products. Skilled at integrating new functionality into existing code and creating reliable, extensible new software.

HARDWARE/OS: Linux (10yr), PC (DOS (5yr), WINDOWS 3.1, 95, 98, & NT(6mth)), UNIX(2yr), VM/CMS(7yr), Macintosh, LCM(2yr), XPM(12yr), CP/M(5yr), AmigaDOS(5yr)

SOFTWARE: C(10yr), C++(1yr), Java(1yr), Perl(7yr), shell/ sh/ csh/ bash/ tcsh(2yr), awk(1yr), Oracle(2yr), Z80/8085(5yr), 68000(9yr), 80X86(1yr), Pascal(12yr)

GOAL:

To design interesting software and possibly moving into management.

EXPERIENCE:

Operating Systems:

Was involved with several processor architecture changes including moving from a multi-processor 68000 based system to a single 68020 based system and another system adding bank switching to an 8085 based system and later changing to a Z80 clone. Re-engineered the inter-process communication system to improve detection of memory overwrite conditions. Implemented a transport layer used in the ISDN and CCS7 protocols. Was also involved in the flash ROM project as well as porting the operating system to be a task under the pSOS commercial embedded operating system.

Implemented SCSI device drivers for tape drives. Implemented device drivers for a hard disk as well as a custom ASIC message processor. Implemented several of the operating system utility commands for AmigaDOS 2.0. Also implemented a device driver to split the CP/M console input stream to accept data from a modem in addition to the console. On Linux worked with 802.11 Ad Hoc Distance Vector Routing drivers as well as H.323 video.

Designed and implemented a new loader for Audix® this reduced the installation time by 70% and the attended installation time by 90%.

Telephony:

On a large PBX, the SL100, implemented Caller ID and unswitched special services. Re-engineered the T1 AB bit scanner delivering a 20% increase in the call capacity as well as bringing it into LSSGR spec. Was a member of the team performing switch integration of three remote terminals, SLC-96, DMS1R, DMS1U. This included basic architecture as well as maintenance of the systems, areas included call processing as well as call accounting and other OA&M metrics and diagnostics.

As the lead designer of the operating and messaging systems had final design authority on any real time performance related issues. This involved me with the ISDN teams, both Basic and Primary rate access protocols as well as CCS7, POTS, E911, and cellular teams.

Was a member of the Audix® voice messaging system current engineering team. While there re-engineered the voice messaging transport between nodes. Also worked in the PBX integration portion of an older implementation which used embedded rather than PC hardware.

Internet/Web/e-commerce:

Wrote a bulk mailing system using a distributed multi-client, multi-server architecture interfacing to SMTP with an Oracle SQL database. This has extremely fast performance operating at over 600K deliveries per hour per node.

Wrote a newsgroup moderation system receiving SMTP messages via IMAP and posting them via NNTP. This has been used very successfully for three different newsgroups.

Wrote a front and back end for a web based problem tracking system. This used Berkley DB as the database.

Aerospace:

Designed and partially implemented an embedded system which sits between two GPS units and connects them via satellite to an Internet site providing weather information and e-mail.

System Administration:

Configured and maintained many systems with services including SMTP (exim, sendmail, smail), DNS (named), NNTP (inn, cnews), HTTP (Apache), NFS, SMB (samba), firewalls (ipfw, iptables), DHCP. Installed Linux, Windows, and SCO Unix.
